CenterPoint Energy seeks slight rate increase

INDIANAPOLIS — CenterPoint Energy, a gas utility with almost 25,000 customers in Hancock County, has filed a request with the state for recovery of investments made within its Indiana natural gas service territory.

The filing with the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission comes at the completion of the company’s seven-year, $725 million gas modernization plan, which was filed in 2013 to comply with federal pipeline safety rules and continue the safe, reliable delivery of natural gas service to its 620,000 north central, central and southeastern Indiana customers.

If the IURC approves the request, the average residential north central, central and southeastern Indiana gas customer could see an approximate increase of less than $3 per month.

Hancock Health gets A rating for safety

GREENFIELD — Hancock Health received an A rating for hospital safety from The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit watchdog organization.

The designation demonstrates how the health system prioritizes patient safety, patient responsiveness and communication with and between doctors and nurses.

Hancock Health also received the highest score in both the spring and fall 2020 reports for effective leadership, staff working together and tracking and reducing risks to patients.

The Leapfrog grade, which has been given twice a year since spring 2012, measures up to 28 national performance metrics from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, its own survey and other supplemental data. Metrics are broken into two categories: process and outcomes.

Indiana chamber names new board chairman

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Chamber of Commerce has named JoAnn Brouillette, managing partner and president of Demeter LP, a Fowler-based grain and commercial warehouse company, chairman of the organization’s board of directors for 2021.

Elected to the board in 2010, Brouillette was vice chair in 2020 and chosen as one of the Indiana Chamber Volunteers of the Year in 2018.

Among her achievements is being appointed to the Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiation by President George W. Bush in 2003 and 2005. Currently, she is chairman of the board of the National Grain and Feed Association, as well as a member of the Purdue University Board of Trustees.

Brouillette’s chairmanship duties for the Indiana Chamber extend through the group’s next fall board meeting in November 2021.
