GREENFIELD — Greenfield Main Street recently announced the winners of the 2020 Virtual Gingerbread House Competition.

To enter, crafty bakers were encouraged to send in two photos of their gingerbread creations — a front view and a side view — by Dec. 14. The only real requirement was that the house be constructed of mostly edible materials.

After receiving 16 entries, judges made their decisions.

The People’s Choice winner, “Hancock Healthy Holidays” by the Farmer family, earned $100. “Hancock Healthy Holidays” was an orange and white frosted gingerbread house with a green door and gingerbread medical staff — in masks — standing out front.

Debra Smith, director of Greenfield Main Street was pleased with the participation, especially since it was a first-time event. She got the idea while watching a holiday movie, and thought it would be an opportunity for families to do something festive while staying safe at home.

Smith hopes to sponsor the contest in person next year.

“I know we have some really talented bakers and decorators in the community,” Smith said. “I would love to see more of them participate.”

All entries can be seen on the Greenfield Main Street Facebook page.
