CASES spike to 94 as new deaths bring total to 83

HANCOCK COUNTY — Two more county residents have died from COVID-19, and another 94 have tested positive for the virus, according to the Indiana State Department of Health.

One of the deaths was a woman while the other was a man, the state’s online COVID-19 dashboard reported. One was age 80 or older and the other was in their 50s. One died on Dec. 22, the other on Dec. 28. They raised the county’s death toll from the novel coronavirus to 83.

The 94 cases added to the county’s total Tuesday were the most for a single day since the 123 reported on Dec. 11. A total of 4,984 Hancock County residents are known to have contracted the virus since the pandemic began.

Nearly 500 more tests added in the county Tuesday made for a total of 63,189.

Indiana added 164 novel coronavirus deaths Tuesday, for a total of 7,703. More than 4,000 more cases brought that total to 500,282. The state’s total tests climbed to 5,585,093 after 31,652 were added.
