County adds virus deaths, cases over weekend

HANCOCK COUNTY — The county added three COVID-19 deaths and 172 cases over the long Christmas holiday weekend.

Two of the victims were men who died on Dec. 24, one of whom was in his 80s, while the other was in his 60s, according to the Indiana State Department of Health. One was a woman in her 80s who died on Dec. 25.

The deaths raised the county’s death toll from the novel coronavirus to 81, and the latest cases brought that total to 4,909.

COVID-19 numbers for schools in the state were updated Monday with data through Dec. 25. Hancock County schools that added fewer than five new student cases included JB Stephens Elementary, Greenfield Central Junior High, Greenfield-Central High, Sugar Creek Elementary, New Palestine Intermediate, New Palestine Jr. High and New Palestine High. Maxwell Intermediate added fewer than five new teacher cases. Adding fewer than five new staff cases were Eden Elementary, Sugar Creek Elementary and New Palestine High.
