Gingerbread House Competition calls for entries

GREENFIELD – Now through Dec. 6, Greenfield Main Street is taking submissions for a virtual gingerbread house competition. Entries must be composed mostly of edible materials including gum paste, fondant, pastillage chocolate, modeling chocolate, royal icing, isomalt, cast sugar, gelatin and pressed sugar. Small to medium structure houses are recommended rather than gingerbread scenes.

To submit your entry, photograph your completed gingerbread house from the front and the side against a solid, neutral background. The photograph should not include any identifying factors such as names, faces, school or business logos. Photos should be uploaded as .jpgs or .png and named last name, first name and name of house.

Judges will be based on originality and creativity, difficulty, overall appearance and appeal, precision and neatness, and the percentage of edible decorations on the house.

Prizes will be awarded for first ($30), second ($15) and third place ($10) in the following categories: 5 years old and under; 6 to 9 years old; 10 to 13 years old; 14 to 17 years old; adults; family (done together as a family project); and professional (individuals or businesses who work in the food service industry). An overall People’s Choice award of $100 will be given with voting done through social media. Visit greenfieldmainstreet.org for more information.
