Haley Ann Morrow

GREENFIELD — Her friends and family called her “Bug,” and they would always say, “Hey Bug,” when she walked into a room. The young woman loved to dance and joke and never met a stranger, her sister said.

Haley Ann Morrow’s death not only shocked those close to her; it has also left officials with the Greenfield Police Department wondering what happened to the teenage girl.

Morrow, 18, who formerly attended Greenfield-Central High School, died Saturday, Nov. 21, at Hancock Regional Hospital. According to GPD, Morrow was brought to the emergency room and dropped off by an unknown male around 12:30 p.m.

That person left before anyone could talk to him or get any information as to what had happened to Morrow.

She was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival.

Police are treating the death as suspicious. The Hancock County coroner’s office also is investigating the circumstances surrounding her death. Results of an autopsy and toxicology test are pending.

“We are dedicated to finding out what happened to this woman to bring closure to her family and friends,” said Capt. Chuck McMichael, public information officer for GPD.

A call to Coroner David Stillinger was not returned by the Daily Reporter’s deadline Monday, Nov. 30.

Detectives have spoken with a handful of people about Morrow, but they have so far been unable to interview anyone who has direct knowledge of her activities in the hours leading up to her death.

In the meantime, her family is heartbroken. Morrow’s sister, Mykaela Valangeon, described her as the kind of person who could walk into a room full of strangers and became friends with everyone within minutes. Haley always had everyone laughing, Valangeon said.

“She wasn’t scared of being herself, and she was even a social media influencer,” Valangeon said. “She had 90,000 followers on TikTok.”

The popular social media site features short videos of lip-syncing, comedy skits, and other performance art.

Morrow loved to spend time working on her makeup and hair, her sister said.

“It was one of the many ways she expressed herself, along with music. She loved music; she even made music with her cousin,” her sister said. “She was very close with all of us and loved to spend time and be silly with us.”

Valangeon said her sister had no known health problems.

Morrow, who lived in Tennessee, was in Greenfield visiting family and friends when she died.

Morrow attended Greenfield-Central High School and West Wilson High School in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, after moving there. In addition to making music and dancing, she was outgoing and loved tennis, cheerleading, horses, basketball and soccer, according to her obituary.
