MUNCIE — Whether you see him as an internet meme or a painting instructor, without a double, Bob Ross was, above all, an artist. Visit Minnestrista in Muncie for an exhibit of Bob Ross’ original paintings, some of which have never before been seen in public view. The exhibit brings together paintings from private individuals, artwork from Minnetrista’s own museum collection and photographs of Bob Ross for a one-of-a-kind artistic experience.

Bob Ross inspired generations of viewers with his soft-spoken voice and a pallet knife. With its global reach, it’s a fact that much of the beloved series, “The Joy of Painting,” was filmed in a television studio in Muncie, Indiana. From 1983 to 1988 Bob painted for the iconic series at WIPB-TV in the historic Lucius L. Ball home — now part of Minnetrista’s museum campus. Bob’s message of fearless creativity and his ability to reinterpret perceived mistakes as “happy little accidents” encouraged scores of painters through the years.

Minnestrista is in the process of refurbishing Ross’ former studio, located on the grounds of the museum, by bringing together objects and media from his life and career, and adding interactive experiences that will bring the “Joy of Painting” to life for visitors. The Bob Ross Experience at Minnetrista, 1200 N. Minnetrista Parkway, will create a space for Bob’s message to flourish.
