GREENFIELD — A nursing home experiencing a COVID-19 outbreak has reported more deaths, infections and recoveries from the novel coronavirus.

Golden LivingCenter-Brandywine added a total of four new resident deaths Tuesday and Wednesday, raising its cumulative total to seven. The long-term care facility also reported 74 out of 89 residents were COVID-19 positive Wednesday, nine greater than the total of infections first reported Monday. No residents were reported to have new respiratory symptoms identified in the 24 hours before the update on Wednesday. Three more residents have recovered from the virus, raising that total to five.

The facility reported Wednesday that 29 employees were COVID-19 positive, eight more than Monday. One employee was reported to have new respiratory symptoms identified in the 24 hours before the update.

The Indiana State Department of Health released its weekly update of its COVID-19 color-coded county map on Wednesday, and kept Hancock County at orange, indicating moderate to high community spread. The county was flagged, however, “due to a large number of the weekly cases being attributable to congregate settings.”

Along with Hancock County, 73 other counties are orange. Seventeen are red, representing high community spread. One — Rush County — is yellow, meaning moderate spread. None are blue, for low spread.

Dr. Kristina Box, Indiana state health commissioner, said during a media briefing Wednesday that she found the number of orange counties “very concerning” so close to Thanksgiving.

“Based on the spikes we’ve seen after our holidays, I’m concerned that many of these orange counties will wind up in red in the next two weeks,” Box said.

The state health department’s online COVID-19 dashboard reported a total of four new novel coronavirus deaths for Hancock County on Wednesday and Thursday. The fatality reported Wednesday was a woman in her 70s who died on Nov. 24. The three deaths reported Thursday were all age 80 or older. Two were women and one was a man. Two died on Nov. 23 and one on Nov. 25.

The latest deaths raised the county’s total to 55.

The dashboard also reported Thursday 76 new COVID-19 cases for Hancock County on Nov. 24 and 72 on Nov. 25. The county’s case total is now 2,603.

Craig Felty, vice president, chief nursing officer and chief operating officer of Hancock Regional Hospital, said Thursday that the hospital was treating 14 COVID-19 patients, four fewer than Tuesday.

“We are busy but have capacity,” Felty said.

Hancock County’s seven-day positivity rate for all tests Thursday was 9.2%, with a cumulative rate of 5.7%. The seven-day positivity rate for unique individuals was 13.6%, with a cumulative rate of 10.2%.

Indiana added 63 COVID-19 deaths, raising the total to 5,295. Another 6,434 positive cases brought that total to 318,894.

The state health department also updated its COVID-19 dashboard for long-term care facilities Wednesday with data through Nov. 18. Besides Golden LivingCenter-Brandywine, one Hancock County facility had an addition to resident cases, four had additions to staff cases, and none had additions to resident deaths.

Traditions at Brookside in McCordsville added one resident case, raising its cumulative total for the pandemic to nine. The facility also added a staff case, bringing that cumulative total to six. Greenfield Healthcare Center added a staff case, for a cumulative total of 21. Springhurst Health Campus added fewer than five staff cases, raising its cumulative total to five. CrownPointe of Greenfield added fewer than five staff cases, raising its cumulative total to fewer than five.
