To the editor:

Hey, Dems! Please remember not all Republicans wanted Trump to win. Many didn’t even dislike Biden. Furthermore, some didn’t even dislike Harris, even for the color of her skin. Please remember that not everybody who “lost” this election is evil or racist. Many of them are your friends and family, and a large number of them were scared what potential policy changes might mean for them and those they care about.

Many communities haven’t benefited equally or well when a Democrat is in the White House. Same could be said for when a Republican is in the White House. As you celebrate, please realize others are actually scared right now, not because a Democrat will be our commander-in-chief and not because a female will be our vice president. Rather, they’re scared because they don’t want to see everything they’ve worked for disappear. For some people, the decision to vote Republican this year was actually based on potential policy implications. Here’s hoping that actual unity and healing can eventually take place. There’s a lot of work needing done.
