Home sales, prices rise despite inventory plunge

HANCOCK COUNTY — Dramatic drops in housing inventory and continually rising prices didn’t stop home buyers in October 2020, an Indianapolis-based realty firm reports.

Monthly real estate stats from F.C. Tucker Company for October show a 34.4% increase in the number of homes sold in Hancock County. At the same time, sale prices increased — up 8.7% to an average price of $241,239, compared to year-to-date 2019. Housing inventory continued to decrease in October, down 50.2%, compared to this time last year.

Throughout a 16-county central Indiana region, housing inventory went down more than 47% compared to October 2019. The inventory shortage continues to boost home sale prices, fueling an extremely competitive market for home buyers.
