HANCOCK COUNTY — A COVID-19 death was reported for the county Friday, as well as 74 new cases — setting a daily case record for the second day in a row.

The fatality was a man in his 70s who died on Nov. 11, according to data from the Indiana State Department of Health. The state health department also reported a Nov. 11 COVID-19 death for Hancock County on Thursday. It was the first time the county recorded two COVID-19 fatalities for one day since June. The county’s death toll from the novel coronavirus is now 47.

Hancock County’s new cases added Friday raised that total to 1,868. After originally reporting 74 new cases for the county on Nov. 11, the state health department revised the figure to 63 Friday, but it was still the county’s second-highest case day.

The county added 553 administered tests Friday as well, raising the total to 35,584. Hancock County’s seven-day positivity rate for all tests from Oct. 31 to Nov. 6 rose to 9.9% and the cumulative rate remained at 5.1%. Its seven-day positivity rate for unique individuals from Oct. 31 to Nov. 6 rose to 18.1% and the cumulative rate rose to 8.4%.
