MV’s Noble wins third GSC XC championship

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Mt. Vernon High School graduate Christian Noble claimed his third individual Gulf South Conference Cross Country Championship and the Flames finished second Saturday morning.

The GSC Championship was contested on an 8K course inside John Hunt Park in Huntsville, Ala.

Noble posted the fourth-fastest time ever recorded in the GSC Championship. His time of 24:08.67 was 12 seconds ahead of Montevallo’s Joseph Leventry and almost 16 seconds faster than Harold LaCroix of Alabama Huntsville.

New Palestine High School graduate and Flames teammate Caleb Eagleson crossed the finish line at 24:27.98 for fifth place. Adan Rodriguez was ninth (24:45.00) with Silas Eckenroad right behind in 10th (24:45.41).

Noble, Eagleson, Rodriguez and Eckenroad earned First Team All-GSC honors for finishing in the top 10. Noble also was named GSC Runner of the Year.

NP’s Mack commits to University of Saint Francis

New Palestine senior Noah Mack, a 2019 All-Hoosier Heritage Conference baseball selection, cemented his collegiate future last week.

On Thursday, Mack announced via Twitter his commitment to the University of Saint Francis to play baseball beginning in 2021-22.

“I am very excited to announce that I will be continuing my athletic and academic career at the University of Saint Francis. I would like to thank USF baseball and the coaching staff for this amazing opportunity,” Mack posted.

Mack hit .400 for the Dragons through 29 games in 2019 with 16 runs scored, 25 RBI, eight doubles, one home run and two stolen bases.

The 6-foot-1, first baseman was named All-Hancock County in 2019 and competes with the Midwest Astros at the club level.

IHSAA volleyball state finalists set for weekend

The IHSAA volleyball state finals will be conducted on Saturday at Ball State’s Worthen Arena.

Four state title matches will take place on Saturday, beginning at 10:30 a.m. with the Class A championship. The 4A state championship match will conclude the day at 7:30 p.m.

Admission for the state finals is $12 per person with public digital sale only starting at 1 p.m. on Thursday via GoFan. No cash or credit card sales will available at the gate.
