FORTVILLE — The town of Fortville has several leaf pickup dates coming up.
Pickup on the south side of Staat Street will be Nov. 9 and 23, and the north side of Staat Street will be Nov. 10 and 24.
Leaves must be curbside before 6 a.m. and should be placed in paper leaf bags. Paper leaf bags are available at most hardware stores, including Lowe’s, Menard’s and Home Depot. Plastic bags are not biodegradable and will have to be opened, emptied and disposed of properly.
There will be a limit of 20 bags per household.
Raking or blowing leaves creates problems for the town, and even with street sweeping it’s impossible to keep up when residents deposit leaves and debris from their yards into the street, the town stated in a notice to residents. The leaves and grass clippings get blown or washed into storm drains, causing water backups. Doing so is prohibited by town ordinances.
