IHSAA football state pairings announed

On Thursday night, 314 Indiana high school football teams learned their sectional opponents as the IHSAA held their annual state tournament pairings show.

The 48th Annual IHSAA Football State Tournament presented by the Indianapolis Colts is set to begin Oct. 23 with first-round games in all classes except Class 6A, which has the week off.

Sectional semifinal games will be played on Oct. 30, sectional championship games on Nov. 6, regionals on Nov. 13, semistates on Nov. 19 and the state championship games on Nov. 27-28.

In Class 5A, No. 4 New Palestine opens Sectional 14 at home against Franklin Community in the semifinals. Seymour is at Whiteland for the other semifinal with the winners’ to play for the title.

In Class 4A, top-ranked Mt. Vernon travels to Richmond in the first round of Sectional 21.

Pendleton Heights is at Greenfield-Central, New Castle goes to Shelbyville, and Connersville is at Muncie Central for the other first-round contests in the eight-team sectional.

The winners between Mt. Vernon-Richmond and Pendleton Heights-Greenfield-Central play the following week in the semifinals. The other two games’ winners face in the second semifinal.

In Class 2A, Eastern Hancock hosts Shenandoah to open Sectional 38.

Heritage Christian goes to Winchester, and Scecina is at Centerville in the other first-round games.

Northeastern drew the bye and will play the winner between Heritage Christian-Winchester in the semifinals. The other two first-round winners will play in the second semifinal.
