HANCOCK COUNTY — A man facing multiple felony charges after a domestic violence incident in which a woman was shot has been sentenced as part of a plea agreement.

Jaden L. Robinson, 20, McCordsville, pleaded guilty to a Level 5 felony count of domestic battery by means of a deadly weapon. On Monday, Sept. 28, he was sentenced to six years, including three years in prison. The sentence also includes a year on work release; a year of home detention; and a year of probation.

According to a probable cause affidavit, officers from the McCordsville Police Department were called last December to a home in the 8000 block of North Crestview Trail in reference to a disturbance with reports of a possible shot fired.

When officers arrived, Robinson, who was 19 at the time, would not open the door, the affidavit said. Robinson eventually relented and told police he had argued with two women over a relationship.

Robinson told police one of the women had slapped him in the face but that he didn’t want to press charges, the affidavit said. A witness, however, told officers they had they heard a gunshot and then seen a woman on the ground before the victim limped to a car and drove away.

The woman was later found at an Indianapolis hospital. She was being treated for a gunshot wound to the foot, the affidavit said. The suspect was identified as Robinson.

The victim told police she had stopped to see Robinson when an altercation occurred. She said Robinson hit her several times before going inside the residence and returning with a handgun. He pointed the gun at her head, she said.

Robinson then lowered the gun, pointed it at the woman’s leg and fired a shot, hitting her in the foot, she told police.

As part of the plea agreement, accepted in Hancock County Superior Court 1 by Court Commissioner Cody Coombs, two Level 6 felony charges of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and pointing a firearm at another were dismissed, according to court documents. Robinson was given 174 days of jail credit and another 58 days for good-time credit.
