HANCOCK COUNTY — Errors led to the number of COVID-19 cases added to Hancock County’s total Friday seem larger than it really was.

The Indiana State Department of Health added 19 new cases for Hancock County, which would have tied for the county’s fourth-largest number of cases added in a single day since the pandemic began.

The state health department also reported Friday that the correction of a laboratory reporting error statewide resulted in the addition of 462 positive cases, 1,628 tested individuals and 2,067 tests administered to the day’s counts.

Crystal Baker, office manager and preparedness coordinator for the Hancock County Health Department, told the Daily Reporter in an email that after taking into account the lab reporting error and moving out-of-county cases to the appropriate county, Hancock County’s case number for Friday was two.

Hancock County’s totals are 21,392 tests administered, 15,627 individuals tested, 898 cases and 42 deaths.
