GREENFIELD — Agape Therapeutic Riding Resources is the latest local nonprofit forced to switch its biggest fundraiser of the year to a virtual event due to COVID-19.

Instead of the usual well-dressed affair, the annual Boots and Bowties event will take place at people’s homes this year, with supporters hosting smaller house parties that stream the entertainment and auction virtually.

Boots and Bowties parties will take place Oct. 9 starting at 6:30 p.m.

The event will still feature dinner, drinks, dancing, a live auction and entertainment, including special guest appearances. Over 50 house parties will be held throughout the area.

“We understand that some people may not feel comfortable gathering in a large group this year,” said Stephanie Amick, executive director of Agape. “Since Boots & Bowties is an event our supporters look forward to all year, we wanted to find a way to do this safely. Our house parties will allow supporters to celebrate with a small group of friends in their home or patio, while raising funds to keep our programs going.”

Boots and Bowties raises $150,000 annually for Agape, which goes towards caring for the organization’s horses and facilities, and defraying the cost of lessons for children and adults with varying disabilities.

A couple live auction items for this year’s event include a Peloton bike and a week’s stay at Big Cedar Lodge in Missouri.

In addition to the silent and live auctions, Boots and Bowties will feature a new Mystery Horseshoe raffle, which features a 1-in-200 chance to win a $5,000 grand prize, as well as other prizes. Tickets are $100 and only 200 will be sold.

Agape is looking for additional house party hosts. The cost to sponsor is $800, and includes a Boots and Bowties-In-A-Box, which includes food, beverages, signage and a live-stream camera.

There is no cost for people to watch the festivities virtually.

Supporters can register to attend Boots and Bowties and sign up to host their own house party at agaperiding.org/bootsandbowties.
