GREENFIELD — The intersection of Franklin Street (County Road 100E) and Davis Road (County Road 100S) in Greenfield will be converted to a four-way stop starting Sept. 16.

Greenfield street commissioner Tyler Rankins said the change, like the recent conversion of the intersection of Franklin Street and County Road 300N to a four-way stop, was motivated by an unusually high number of collisions at the intersection. Drivers approaching the corner from the north also have a partially obscured view, Rankins said.

To warn drivers of the change, the street department has added rumble strips on the approaches. The city also plans to add lighted stop signs, “stop-ahead” signs and a message board that will alert drivers of the change.

Rankins said it is not expensive to convert an intersection from a two-way to a four-way stop: It costs about $500, not including the cost of employees’ time, he said
