The Mt. Vernon boys tennis team isn’t slowing down.

At 7-0 on the season entering Wednesday night’s match against visiting Anderson, the Marauders cruised to a 5-0 win at the “Marauder Dome.”

Mt. Vernon took the courts locked in from the opening serve and nearly won all five matches in flawless fashion.

Haiden Rose dominated at No. 1 singles, winning his match 6-0, 6-0, which No. 3 singles player Joe Bowsher replicated with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Chris Hays added a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles.

The Marauders’ doubles teams nearly mirrored one another in efficiency with the No. 1 tandem of Owen Koon and Dallas Turner rolling to a 6-2, 6-0 win.

Andrew Jones and Logan LeRoy were victorious 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.

“This team is a band of brothers. All seniors. All for one and one for all. Tonight, they struck down with great vengeance and furious anger an Anderson (team), who was trying to ‘poison’ (win) and destroy our brotherhood,” MV head coach Gabe Muterspaugh said.

“First off, a big bounce back for our big cat Haiden Rose … Joe Bowsher is turning into a beast. Chris Hays was as dominant as I’ve seen this year. One doubles got rolling once Owen Koon got his bleeding stopped from opening a tennis ball can. Dali Llama Dallas Turner was as solid as an Alpacas gut tonight. Two doubles are growing each and every match just like Andrew Jones’ curly locks. Logan Leroy plays great when he wears his lucky hat with his name on it. Good win.”

Cougars sweep past Scecina

The Greenfield-Central Cougars improved to 5-2 on the season with a decisive victory over visiting Scecina Memorial on Wednesday night.

Carson Gibson won at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-2, while Robbie Dye was perfect at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Matt Hyre completed the singles sweep a 6-1, 6-0 win.

The No. 1 doubles team of Jack Weidner and Corbin Tilley rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Garrett Neumeister and Nick Grandstaff wasted little time at No. 2 doubles, finishing 6-0, 6-0.
