Nivens joins Park Chapel as coordinator

GREENFIELD — Shauna Nivens joined the Park Chapel Christian Church staff earlier this month as the women’s ministry and guest services coordinator.

“Park Chapel has prayed and searched for quite some time,” the church said in a release, “for just the right person to work with ladies who want to be part of the growing community at the church.”

Nivens grew up in the Greenfield area “and met Jesus at a young age through some good people at Fountaintown Christian Church,” the release said. “Having led several ministry efforts over the years as well as homeschooling her four children, there isn’t much Shauna shies away from!”

She attended Anderson University, where she met her husband, J.K., at church.

Women’s ministry at Park Chapel kicks off in September with opportunities to connect with Connect Groups, Women’s Events, MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) and the Unraveled Club being among favorite activities for relationships.

Women’s study explores ‘Nice’ book

GREENFIELD — Greenfield Christian Church is offering a book/Bible study from 9:15 to 10:30 a.m. Thursdays beginning Sept. 10 and ending Oct. 22.

The selected book for this study is “Nice — Why We Love to be Liked and How God Calls Us to More” by Sharon Hodde Miller. Its premise is that women have been socialized to be nice with comments like “that isn’t nice” or “be a nice girl.” In their desire to be liked, women often are nice, being silent, less than genuine, or even compromising themselves to be liked.

Nedra Everett, licensed marriage and family therapist with a private practice in Carmel, will lead this study. In her 29 years of practice, she has seen the cost of this well-meaning message to “be nice” result in confusion about how to hold onto themselves and have a voice in their church, their marriage, their community, and their friendships. Building on the metaphor of a “better tree”, she will blend content, discussion, and creative activities to create space, common ground, for each woman to cultivate her own “better tree” wherever she is in her walk of faith.

This ministry is open to all women in the Greenfield area, particularly for women with young and elementary age children. Book, handouts, creative project materials will be provided at no cost. Registration by Sept. 3 will allow the church to have materials ready.

Call the office at 317.462.6346 or email [email protected] to register. Those with questions can contact Everett at 630-408-8382 or [email protected].
