Housing inventory plunges

HANCOCK COUNTY — Monthly stats from an Indianapolis real estate firm show that Hancock County’s housing inventory decreased 47.8% in July 2020 compared to July 2019.

F.C. Tucker Company also reported the county saw a 0.6% decrease in the number of homes sold in July 2020. Home sale prices increased 7.5% to an average price of $236,032 compared to year-to-date 2019.

Housing inventories dropped significantly in July throughout a 16-county central Indiana region — down 45.3% compared to July 2019. Pended home sales increased 12.5%, and the average July home sale price for the region was $264,269, an increase of 13.2%. The year-to-date average home sale price increased by 8.9%, to $244,477.

Downtown grant program available

GREENFIELD — Greenfield Main Street, Inc. will award a limited number of matching grants on a competitive basis.

The grants will be up to $3,000 per qualifying property to improve building facades and to promote preservation and rehabilitation of historic downtown structures.

Through the program, Greenfield Main Street seeks to foster enthusiasm and prosperity by improving the appearance of downtown Greenfield.

Toy store closing

GREENFIELD — That Toy Store at 866 S. State St. is closing due to challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The store will close at the end of August, it posted on its Facebook page. It’s currently having a liquidation sale. The store’s hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

That Toy Store opened in June 2019.

Downtown organization seeks volunteers

GREENFIELD — An organization that represents the city’s downtown is looking for volunteers.
