The Eastern Hancock boys’ tennis team picked up another 5-0 win to boost their overall record to 2-0. The Royals beat Southwestern on Tuesday.

Eastern won all 10 sets and won 60 games to the Spartans 13.

At No. 1 singles, Kodey Huff won 6-2, 6-2. No. 2 Zeke Dixon and No. 3 Nolan Stout each won 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles, the No. 1 team of Bryce Wennen and Nate Cape won 6-2, 6-0. At No. 2, Peyton Stephens and Wyatt Sutton won 6-4, 6-3.

The team is scheduled to play at Rushville on Tuesday, Aug. 25.

Dragons’ tennis

falls to Whiteland

The New Palestine boys tennis team dropped a 5-0 decision to a talented Whiteland squad Tuesday on the Warriors’ courts.

Ezra Schwier led the Dragons, playing very well but falling 6-1, 6-0 to Whiteland’s Quinten Gillespie, who is ranked in the state’s top 10.

The rest of the varsity team struggled in straight-set losses.

“Even though the team lost, we played some very competitive games and continue to improve,” New Palestine head coach Jean Graham said.

Marauders shutout

Red Devils

The Mt. Vernon boys soccer team got back on track Tuesday night with a 1-0 shutout against Richmond on the road.

Richmond held the Marauders scoreless through the first half, but Mt. Vernon broke through in the second half, and nearly had a pair of goals.

The Marauders scored first off a goal by Aden Cappelletti, however the officials called a no-touch, waved off the goal and awarded Richmond a free kick instead.

Less than two minutes later, the Marauders fired an undisputed goal into the net off a free kick by Alex Nielsen.

Mt. Vernon goalkeeper Noah Whitehouse recorded three saves, while the defense of Nielsen, Taylor Lorsung, Ethan Tucker and Jaden Price helped prevent the Red Devils from mounting any serious attacks.

Cougars fall

to Millers

The host Greenfield-Central Cougars came out slow in the first half on Tuesday night, falling behind early to the Noblesville Millers en route to a 4-0 loss.

The Millers ran out quickly, pressuring the Cougars’ back line to score their first goal in the third minute. Greenfield-Central tried to combine in the middle but struggled to keep pace.

The Millers led 4-0 by halftime.

In the second half, Greenfield-Central came out with more composure and were able to string a few combinations together, head coach Bobby Holden remarked.

G-C’s Ben Polster played more aggressive and made several one-on-one saves. The Cougars’ offensive threat in the second half came from a pair of free kicks taken by Bryce Kinnaman and Logan Masters.

New Pal drops opener to Pioneers

The New Palestine boys soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision Tuesday at Mooresville in the Dragons’ season opener.

The Dragons were playing without three starters and started a young squad that included four freshmen.

The Dragons are next in action Thursday at Yorktown.

Girls Golf

Marauders win over Golden Bears

The Mt. Vernon girls golf team shot a team-best on Tuesday to defeat Hoosier Heritage Conference foe Shelbyville 175-204 at Arrowhead Golf Course.

The host Marauders were led by Alaina Nugent, who earned medalist honors with a nine-hole score of 38.

Emily Rollo fired a career-best with a 45.
