County records new COVID-19 death

HANCOCK COUNTY — The Indiana State Department of Health reported Tuesday that a Hancock County resident died of COVID-19 the day before, raising the county’s death toll from the virus to 39.

The resident was a man in his 60s who died on Aug. 10, according to the state health department’s online COVID-19 dashboard. The novel coronavirus-related death was Hancock County’s first recorded since July 31.

Hancock County also added 13 new COVID-19 cases between Aug. 9 and 10, raising its total Tuesday to 683. More than 100 new individuals tested between July 29 and Aug. 10 increased that amount to 10,799. The county’s positivity rate is 6.3% and its seven-day positivity rate between July 29 and Aug. 4 is 3.9%.

Statewide, 884 new COVID-19 cases between July 31 and Aug. 10 were added for a total of 75,862. Indiana also recorded 25 new novel coronavirus deaths between July 22 and Aug. 10, bringing the total to 2,863. More than 9,600 new individuals tested and 13,792 new administered tests were recorded dating back to between May 13 and Aug. 10, bringing those totals to 861,655 and 1,090,369, respectively. The state’s positivity rate is 8.8% and its seven-day positivity rate between July 29 and Aug. 4 is 7.7%.
