GREENFIELD — Madelyn Lowell, a 2020 graduate of Mt Vernon High School, was the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship from the Hancock County Business and Professional Women. At its July monthly luncheon, the club honored Lowell and her parents, Christian and Paula Lowell, along with a dozen of Lowell’s marching band mates.

The scholarship will help send Lowell to the University of Indianapolis. In her application essay, Lowell stated she plans to seek a degree in business administration, with emphasis on not-for-profit management. She also plans to continue the leadership role she exhibited at Mt Vernon High School in the marching band and to further care for animals through protection and rescue. After graduation from college, she plans to create a not-for-profit to raise funds and advocate for vulnerable animals and wildlife inspired by her employment at the Indianapolis Zoo.

The BPW selection committee selected Lowell’s application because her experience, coursework and aspirations will allow her to become a successful businesswoman who can lead and mentor.
