GREENFIELD — The cost for a renovation to the Hancock County Community Corrections building that will allow it to be used as additional jail space will be $148,900, County Commissioner John Jessup says.

The project is intended to increase the jail’s ability to keep prisoners apart and quarantine new inmates during the COVID-19 pandemic. Remodeling work will be done by RQAW Corporation, the construction firm also building the county’s new jail.

Jessup said the goal is to have the space open by Oct. 1.

“Anything that we can do to improve that (timeline), we will,” he said.

The commissioners approved the project on Tuesday, July 21
