Crew Carwash coming in 2021

GREENFIELD — Crew Carwash plans to build a new location in Greenfield next year.

The Indianapolis-based company intends to demolish the commercial building that once housed F.C. Tucker at 1726 N. State St. and build the car wash in its place. An affiliate of Crew Carwash recently bought the property for more than $1.1 million.

Justin Furr, director of real estate for Crew Carwash, told the Greenfield Plan Commission in June that the project will likely start next spring.

The project calls for a 5,764-square foot, one-story building, according to documents filed with the city of Greenfield. Three stacking lines will funnel vehicles into a single line that loops across the property and into the building. Vacuums will also be installed on the property.

Crew Carwash has 33 locations in Indiana, according to its website.

Funeral home adds new therapy dog

GREENFIELD — A certified therapy dog, Foster, is the newest four-legged addition to Stillinger Family Funeral Home’s staff.

The 5-month-old Labradoodle will help foster relationships, healing and offer support to families and clients visiting the Greenfield funeral home. Foster joins his four-legged brothers Harley and Harper, who also provide support. Stillinger Family Funeral Home was one of the first funeral homes in Indiana to offer canine support during services.

Foster completed therapy dog training and certification with Ultimate Canine in Westfield. According to his trainers, his outgoing temperament and desire to please make him a “natural” therapy dog.

To make the most out of Foster’s dedicated training, four Stillinger Family Funeral Home staff members are certified handlers to not only serve by Foster’s side at work, but also provide support to the community in different venues.

Hair salon moving across town

McCORDSVILLE — A hair salon’s future is in a shop once dedicated to objects of the past.

The owner of The Studio: A Hair Salon plans to renovate and move into where Alice’s Antiques once operated at 6300 W. Broadway. The salon has been at its current location, 8023 N. County Road 600W, Suite 102, since 2017. Lindsay Syrus, the salon’s owner, told the McCordsville Board of Zoning Appeals earlier this month that the business needs more room to expand.

She plans to renovate the new space into an open-concept industrial loft with seven stylist stations, three shampoo bowls, two hooded dryer chairs, a reception desk, waiting area and retail section.

The town’s board of zoning appeals approved several variance requests for the project.

Local Indie Art studio closing

GREENFIELD — Indie Art Studio in downtown Greenfield is closing, its owner, Rachel Holmes, announced on the studio’s Facebook page.

Holmes cited the fact that most experiences in the studio rely on close proximity, which people have been urged to refrain from throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

The studio’s “new normal,” Holmes continued, will focus on activities that can be done from a safe distance like take-home kits and online events. She also plans to travel for private group events, which she did before opening the studio at 2 W. Main St. in November 2017.

Local student interning at financial firm

INDIANAPOLIS — A Purdue University student who hails from Greenfield is among the 18 participating in a virtual internship at OneAmerica Financial Partners in Indianapolis this summer.

Matt Blessing is working a 12-week assignment from through August. Interns provide support to departments such as actuarial, commercial mortgage, finance, information technology, human resources and marketing. They work virtually but interactively, collaborating on critical operations and community projects, expanding their work experience and relationship-building skills.

Activities will also include engagement in an annual community service project with United Way and participating in Indyfluence, a summer-long collaboration of interns from fellow central Indiana companies, as well as significant project work within their respective teams.
