GREENFIELD — Calling all detectives! Where in the world is James Whitcomb Riley? Uh, scratch that — rewind. Where in GREENFIELD is James Whitcomb Riley? In case you haven’t noticed, the statue of Greenfield’s poet laureate — normally seated on a bench in front of the James Whitcomb Riley Boyhood Home and Museum — is missing.

His disappearance is part of a communitywide game of “Clue: The Case of the Stolen James Whitcomb Riley Statue.” Local super-villains have stolen the statue as part of a sinister plot to take over the city parks and keep everything for themselves.

Are your detective skills a match for these diabolical evil-doers? The crime can be solved through the process of elimination. Beginning Monday, June 15, clues will be hidden along the Pennsy Trail from the “Welcome to Greenfield” sign east of Meridian Road all the way to Morristown Pike. Watch the video at greenfieldin.org/parks and then download the tracking sheet (available on June 15). Search high and low as you walk the trail and cross off clues as you discover them. Take your time so you don’t miss any clues. Each clue will be a location, person or tool for you to check off. Most clues will be visible from the path. Take pictures as you go using the #greenfieldparks hashtag.

Once you’ve solved the crime, email your answer and your contact information to [email protected]. The name of every correct crimefighter will be placed into a drawing for a $50 gift card. The drawing will be held June 22. Give everyone a chance to try out their sleuthing skills and do no publish the answer. For more information, visit greenfieldin.org/parks.
