GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Water Utility plans to flush water mains on the city’s north side (north of McKenzie Road) beginning June 1.

Flushing hydrants helps to improve water quality by removing sediment from the water mains, according to a news release from the water utility, which adds the process will take several weeks to complete.

Water discoloration may occur during this time. Not all areas will be affected at the same time.

While the water is safe to consume, customers should run cold water for at least 15 minutes or until clear. Do not run hot water.

The water utility will post signs in the areas in which it will be working. Customers are advised not to do laundry when discoloration is present. Motorists should drive carefully near hydrant flushing crews.
