Memorial Day services will honor the fallen

HANCOCK COUNTY — A number of observances are planned during the holiday weekend to commemorate Memorial Day.

At 1 p.m. Sunday, May 24, American Legion Post 182 in New Palestine will be host to a ceremony at the Veterans Memorial at Sugar Creek Township Park, 4161 S. County Road 700W. The program will include music and a brief speech.

At 11 a.m. Monday, May 25, American Legion Post 119 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2693 will put on a ceremony at Park Cemetery in Greenfield, 621. S. State St. The service, which will be streamed on Facebook, will include a speech by Eric Billman, a Greenfield resident and past state president of the VFW.

Also at 11 a.m. Monday, American Legion Post 391 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6904 will have a short service at Gravel Lawn Cemetery north of Fortville along State Road 13.

Organizers of all three events will encourage physical distancing as part of ongoing precautions against COVID-19.
