GREENFIELD — The Upsilon chapter of Psi Iota Xi has announced its list of 2019-20 community donations totaling $1,950.

The 19-member philanthropic sorority, based in Greenfield, raises money to donate back into the community through a variety of fundraisers. The sorority’s areas of charitable focus are speech/hearing, art, literature and music. It supports organizations located in Greenfield and eastern and southern Hancock County. There is also a chapter of Psi Iota Xi in Fortville.

This year’s recipients include: $550 to Hear Indiana to offset fees for a child to attend the annual Listening and Spoken Language Camp and $500 to a local family to support the cost of hearing aids for two children with hearing loss.

These groups received $100 each to support programs: Friends of the Theater; Bentley’s Buddies and Friends; KidsPlay; Eastern Hancock, Greenfield-Central and New Palestine high schools for band programs; Greenfield-Central for theater; Hancock County Community Foundation to support the Imagination Library endowment campaign; and Hancock County Adult Literacy Coalition.

In addition to these donations, the sorority also fully funds a weeklong speech and hearing clinic open to Hancock County elementary students; provides a $1,000 scholarship to a student pursuing postsecondary education; and supports arts and other programs.
