HANCOCK COUNTY — The first positive COVID-19 case the Indiana State Department of Health is reporting for a Hancock County resident is actually not a resident of the county, according to a Hancock County Health Department official.

When the state department of health updated its coronavirus map Saturday morning, one positive case was listed for Hancock County, which would have been the county’s first positive case recorded for a resident.

But Crystal Baker, office manager and preparedness coordinator for the Hancock County Health Department, told the Daily Reporter in an email that the department has confirmed with the patient that they are not a resident or employee in Hancock County. She added the Indiana State Department of Health is making the appropriate changes on its end, but that she did not know when its map would be updated.

The state department of health reported 47 new positive cases Saturday, bringing to 126 the number of Hoosiers diagnosed through the department, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and private laboratories. Three Hoosiers have died from the coronavirus.

In total, 833 Hoosiers have been tested, including 279 who were tested in the last 24 hours.
