Ann Marie (Carmichael) Hastings, also known as Nanny to most, age 74, of New Palestine, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2020. She was born in Martinsville, Indiana on June 13, 1945 to Don and Agnes (Platt) Carmichael. She graduated from Martinsville High School and attended Indiana Business College. Ann married Kenneth C. Hastings.

She worked for Allstate Insurance Company in the accounting, telecommunications, and claims department, and as an agent advocate. In 2007, after 40 years of commitment to Allstate, she retired. Ann attended Brookville Road Community Church, where she volunteered her time for the MOPS program, in the nursery and during vacation bible school. She also volunteered her time helping teachers at New Palestine Elementary and New Palestine Intermediate School. She volunteered in the library at both schools as well while also helping in the HOST program at NPE. While working at Allstate, she volunteered at The Day Spring Center. She loved going to the movies, reading, seeing musicals and visiting Panama City Beach. Ann liked baking and was known for her Robert Redford cake and Swedish Nut cake. She adored spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren.

Ann is survived by her daughter, Lori (Fred) Burks of New Palestine; brothers, Ron (Marge) Carmichael of Martinsville and Sam (Susie) Carmichael of Greenwood; five grandchildren, Brandon (Jennifer), Drew, Austin, Hunter, and Sydney; three great-grandchildren, Amoriyah, Noelle, and Sarallah; daughter-in-law, Suzy Stiko of New Palestine; and nieces, Julie Carmichael and Kelly Patel. She was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Agnes Carmichael; and husband, Kenneth Hastings.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 2, 2020, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at the mortuary.
