HANCOCK COUNTY — A man accused of failing to register as a sex or violent offender was one of several defendants who was sentenced late last week in Hancock County Circuit Court.

Chad Everett Holden, 48, Indianapolis, was facing a Level 5 felony charge of failure to register as a sex or violent offender with a prior conviction from an incident in October 2019.

He was given a three-year prison term by Judge Scott Sirk on Thursday, Feb. 13. However, two years of the term were suspended.

Holden was ordered by the court to comply with all terms and conditions of sex-offender-specific probation and was given 120 days credit for time served. His probation was active Feb. 13, court records show.

These defendants also were sentenced:

Michael Short, 41, Greenfield, pleaded guilty to a Level 5 felony charge of dealing a narcotic drug from an incident in December 2017. Short was sentenced to three years, with a year to be spent in Hancock County Community Corrections home detention and two years on probation.

John A. Grigsby, 51, Greenfield, was sentenced for a Level 5 felony count of auto theft from an incident in July 2019. He received three years, but one year was suspended and he received credit for 212 days time served. Court records show his sentence will be reviewed if he completes a substance abuse treatment program while he’s incarcerated.

Zackeriah Jacob Steagall, 29, Shelbyville, received a six-year prison term for a felony count of possession of methamphetamine stemming from an incident in March 2019. Sirk suspended two years of the sentence and credited Steagall with 316 days of time served. Records show the court will consider a sentence modification if he completes a substance abuse treatment program while he’s incarcerated.
