Waterfront equipment company moving

FORTVILLE — A Fortville waterfront equipment company is adding boat storage to its services and moving to a bigger property across town.

Deaton’s Waterfront Services stores docks and constructs docks, boat lifts and seawalls. The company has operated out of 215 S. Madison St. in Fortville for six years. It plans to construct a 20,000-square foot building on a 17.5-acre property at 3253 W. County Road 1000N, Fortville, which is currently vacant agricultural land.

The business intends to operate a supply yard and boat storage along with a building with offices and work bays on the property.

Paul Deaton, owner of Deaton’s Waterfront Services, said he expects construction to begin in June and for the business to move into the new location in the fall.

He expects the new location to be able to store about 200 boats.

The company employs 16, Deaton said, adding the expansion should allow for four to six more, depending on the economy.
