Children can read to a new best friend

GREENFIELD-NEW PALESTINE — Children can practice reading aloud to the friendliest audience ever: dogs from Bentley’s Buddies and Friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Jan. 26 at both Hancock County Public Library locations in Greenfield (900 W. McKenzie Road) and New Palestine 5731 W. U.S. Highway 52). No sign-up is required. Families can just drop in. Bentley’s Buddies and Friends is a non-profit organization that provides animals, along with their owner-volunteers, to children in learning environments. Their mission is to improve children’s reading skills, comprehension, confidence, and the love of reading through this effort.

Create marble mazes at the library

GREENFIELD – Kindergartners through 5th graders can build a marble run out of recycled materials and then race against each other from 4 to 5 p.m., Jan. 29, at the Hancock County Public Library, 900 W. McKenzie Road. Materials used included cardboard, pool noodles and gravity as part of this STEM experiment. Sign up for this free event at hcplibrary.org or 317-462-5141, ext. 238. Paint a masterpiece with other teens

NEW PALESTINE – Teens in grades 6 through 12 can hang out with friends during an art session from 5 to 6 p.m., Jan. 27, at the Hancock County Public Library’s Sugar Creek Branch, 5731 W. U.S. Highway 52. The library will supply paints, brushes and a canvas for teens to relax and express themselves while making art.
