Dragons complete weekend sweep over Pendleton Heights

The New Palestine boys basketball team followed up Friday’s victory over Pendleton Heights with a 63-52 win Saturday over visiting Mooresville.

The Dragons used an eight-point run to start the second quarter to take control, leading to the first weekend sweep of the season.

The Dragons increased their advantage to double digits in the third quarter. Mooresville cut the lead to 42-36, but Steele Brasfield drained his second 3-pointer of the game to push the lead to nine. Back-to-back dunks by Eric Roudebush and Dawson Eastes helped extend the lead back into double digits in the closing minutes and sealed the game.

Maximus Gizzi led the way with 23 points, his 12th consecutive 20-point game. He now has 1,333 career points. Brasfield tallied 13 points, his career high. Eastes also scored 13. Blaine Nunnally added eight and Roudebush six.

Girls Basketball

Cougars hold off Braves in OT

The Greenfield-Central girls basketball team defeated visiting Indian Creek 49-47 in overtime on Saturday.

The Cougars led 21-14 at halftime before the Braves rallied to tie the game 41-41 at the end of regulation.

Hannah Farrell scored a team-high 18 points with 10 rebounds, and Crystal Peterson hit a pair of crucial 3-pointers during the game to finish with 12 points.

Marauders win 17th straight game

The Class 4A eighth-ranked Mt. Vernon girls basketball team won its 17th straight game on Saturday and remained unbeaten in the Hoosier Heritage Conference with a 69-38 victory over Shelbyville.

The Marauders built a 32-11 lead by halftime and never looked back to improve to 18-1 on the season and 4-0 in the HHC.

Lexi Shelton led the way with 22 points on 9 of 17 shooting and six rebounds. Olivia Yeley had seven rebounds and 10 points. Sydnee Perry added 10 points.

Abby Worley and Tessa Freeman each had eight points. Worley dished out eight assists. Perry recorded five rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Royals cruise past Mohawks

The Eastern Hancock girls basketball team won its second game in its past three with a 55-44 victory over visiting Waldron on Saturday.

The Royals turned a 19-18 halftime deficit into a 20-point third quarter to pull away. The win improved their season record to 11-6.

Jocelyn Duncan led the Royals with 20 points on 7 of 13 shooting, while Aly Spaulding added 13 points and Chloe O’Neal had eight points.

Skyla Smith had seven rebounds. O’Neal added five rebounds with a steal. Spaulding grabbed five rebounds and had two assists. Grace Stapleton dished out five assists with five steals.

Wrestling

Wills, Kesler lead Royals at Lapel

The Eastern Hancock wrestling team placed sixth at the Lapel Invitational on Saturday.

Avery Wills, a junior, led the Royals with a 5-0 day to place first at 152 pounds. Sophomore Sam Kesler was second with a 4-1 day at 145.

Tyler Vandervliet was 3-2 at 182.
