Seven players headline IBCA POW awards

Merrillville Junior Keon Thompson, Danville Community Senior Dillon Ware, North Daviess Senior Jack Townsend, Mishawaka Marian Senior Christina Himelick, Marion Senior RaShaya Kyle, Winchester Community Senior Madeline Lawrence, and Vincennes Lincoln Senior Darrian Carmean were selected as recipients for the week of Dec. 9-Dec.14 in the recognition program coordinated by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.

Thompson is the boys’ honoree and Himelick is the girls’ honoree for District-1. Ware is the boys’ winner for District-2, while Kyle and Lawrence share District-2 girls’ honors. Townsend is the boys’ recipient and Carmean is the girls’ recipient for District-3.

Royals’ pork burger fundraiser this week

The Eastern Hancock Athletic Boosters will be sponsoring a pork burger meal this Friday night in the high school cafeteria prior to and during the Knightstown vs. Eastern Hancock boys-girls varsity basketball doubleheader.

Proceeds from this meal will be divided between the Riley Settergren Foundation and the Don Willard Legend Scholarship, as we assist with raising funds for these two important programs in our communities.

A pork burger, bag of chips, cookie and a drink will be available for $7 with sandwiches only for $4. Additional donations towards these two funds will also be accepted.

EH Hall nominations being accepted

The Eastern Hancock Athletic Boosters are seeking nominations for the 2020 class of the Eastern Hancock Athletic Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame recognizes the achievements of former athletes, teams, coaches, administrators and other contributors to the athletic programs at Eastern Hancock, Charlottesville, Westland and Wilkinson High Schools.

To be eligible, an athlete must be seven years removed from competition, coaches five years, and teams 10 years.

Nominations are due to the EH athletic director’s office by Dec. 23. The 2020 Hall of Fame class will be recognized at halftime of the EH-Shenandoah boys varsity basketball game on Jan. 25, 2020.
