Girls basketball

Dragons open league season with victory

New Palestine opened the Hoosier Heritage Conference portion of the schedule with a 61-49 victory at New Castle, Tuesday.

Jordan Reid led three players scoring in double figures with 17. Isabella Gizzi had 15. Faith Hensel added 12. Reid also had a game-high 13 rebounds.

The Dragons are 6-2 overall and 1-0 in the HHC.

Tuesday’s game was the first of five straight HHC contests. The Dragons play host to Delta on Saturday.

Cougars fall to Chatard

Greenfield-Central lost 43-34 to Indianapolis Bishop Chatard in a home non-conference game, Tuesday.

The Cougars are 2-5 overall and travel to Lapel tonight. They return to Hoosier Heritage Conference play Dec. 13 at New Palestine. Chatard improved to 3-2.

Wrestling

Cougars improve to 6-0

Greenfield-Central defeated host Pendleton Heights 46-26, Tuesday.

It was the Cougars sixth dual meet win without a loss. G-C went 5-0 at the Elwood Rex Leavitt Super Duals on Nov. 23.

Against the Arabians, Greenfield-Central won eight of 13 matches and had one forfeit. Zeke Holden (120), Dylan Dorman (138), Jacob Blevens (220) and Dakota Herald (106) won by fall. Both Josh VanOsdel (126) and Kenny Thompson (152) won by technical fall. Shane Stough (160) and Chase Gardner (170) won by decision.

The match was originally scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 27 at Hoosier Gym in Knightstown, but a power outage forced it to be postponed.

Greenfield-Central will put its unbeaten mark on the line tonight at Franklin Central.

Boys swimming

Royals third at Connersville

Eastern Hancock finished behind victorious Batesville and host Connersville in a tri-meet, Tuesday.

Batesville won with 54 points. Connersville had 50, while the Royals followed with 40.

Eastern Hancock is back in action Thursday, Dec. 12 in a tri-meet with New Castle at New Palestine.

Eastern Hancock placed third in a tri-meet at Connersville on Tuesday.

Host Connersville won the event with 65 points. Batesville followed with 52. The Royals scored 34 points.
