HANCOCK COUNTY — A Greenfield man has been arrested and charged with four felony drug crimes after an undercover police informant twice bought methamphetamine during the summer.

Ryan Smith, 38, Greenfield, has been charged with two Level 5 felony charges of dealing methamphetamine and two Level 6 felony charges of possession of methamphetamine. The most serious charges carry up to six years each in prison.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, a confidential informant purchased methamphetamine from Smith on at least two occasions last summer. The informant was given cash and a recording device, the affidavit said. Officers were able to witness the transaction take place.

A six-person photo lineup was compiled including a photo of Smith and five other individuals similar in age and appearance. The informant positively identified Smith as the dealer in the controlled buys, the affidavit said.

Smith, who was booked into the Hancock County Jail, on Wednesday, Nov. 13, made an initial appearance the next day in Hancock County Superior Court 1 in front of Judge Terry Snow.

Snow set a $6,000 cash bond after entering a plea of not guilty for the defendant. Smith is no longer listed as being an inmate in the jail. He has a pretrial conference set for Dec. 31.
