NEW PALESTINE — A new nonprofit organization founded by New Palestine parents hopes to give area youths a safe space to discuss self-image, relationships and more.

Allison Davis is the president of the new organization, called the Life Line, which recently attained non-profit status. Davis said its intent is to provide a resource center and programs for students in grades 5 through 12.

“We want to promote self-esteem and positive image,” Davis said.

The Life Line will have its first event for children, focused on the topic of “Building Thankful Relationships,” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19. Davis said the event will feature a discussion of relationships in language that should speak to kids of all ages, followed by small-group discussions divided by age group.

The organization will hold its events at Adaggios Banquet Hall, where it also has a small office space.

Other topics the group hopes to cover in the future include building self-esteem as well as practical skills such as how to build a resume.

Davis said New Palestine parents were motivated to create the organization because — while there are positive resources available in other parts of Hancock County — the only ones close to home were affiliated with churches.

Currently, five parents are on the organization’s board and seven on a committee devoted to planning events.

“We just wanted to provide something that’s a little better located for the kids in New Pal,” Davis said.

The Life Line has already begun partnering with other area nonprofits, including youth leadership organization Elite Athletic Trend, Davis said.

Davis said the organization is open to being guided in its mission by the needs of youths in the community and is hoping its events will serve as a “mental health check-in” for young people.

“The community is responsible for helping students grow up into healthy adults,” Davis said.
