GREENFIELD — Meals on Wheels of Hancock County recently held a volunteer appreciation breakfast recognizing those who donate time and talent to its mission of fighting hunger.

The organization presented two awards to important contributors: the Jill Carr Community Engagement Award, presented to a group that makes significant contributions to Meals on Wheels, went to Bradley United Methodist Church, while the Bob Glazier Award for an individual volunteer was given to Jeannie Roberts.

Roberts has been a volunteer with Meals on Wheels for fourteen years in addition to her work as the volunteer coordinator with United Way of Central Indiana — Area East. Meals on Wheels public relations and marketing coordinator April Allford said Roberts is “a very special volunteer.”

“She’s a very giving and loving person,” Allford said. “We love her volunteerism and community spirit.”

Meals on Wheels director Lynda Kosh said Roberts “sets the bar high” as a volunteer.

“She also encourages others to volunteer. I know that she has a servant’s heart and truly loves people,” Kosh said. “We are grateful to have her as a super volunteer and one of our hometown heroes.”

Allford said Bradley UMC is one of several churches whose parishioners volunteer with Meals on Wheels as a group and that the organization often relies on Bradley UMC members as its delivery drivers.

“They are very dedicated to helping us,” she said.

Allford said the event was intended to thank all of those who contribute to the organization.

“We feel it’s very important to recognize their commitment,” Allford said.
