Government recognizes Yamaha Marine Precision Propellers plant

GREENFIELD — An official with the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service recognized the Yamaha Marine Precision Propellers plant being built in Greenfield.

Ian Steff, assistant secretary and director general of the service, met in October with several internationally based companies with operations in Indiana, including Greenfield-based Yamaha Marine Precision Propellers.

Following a tour of Yamaha’s facility, Steff presented a certificate of achievement to the company on behalf of the U.S. Department of Commerce recognizing their investment in Indiana, which has led to job creation and economic growth.

Company donates equipment, time to high school program

GREENFIELD — Summers Plumbing Heating & Cooling donated more than $10,000 in equipment and is contributing time to Greenfield-Central High School’s new HVAC program.

By the time participating students graduate, they will be EPA-certified and have some credits toward their trade.

Summers employees are donating time to install the equipment in the school’s training facility.

Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation to hold Realtor breakfast

FORTVILLE — Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation will host a Realtor Breakfast 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6 at the corporation’s Administrative Service Center, 1806 W. State Road 234, Fortville.

Along with breakfast, the event will include meeting with Mt. Vernon leadership and a tour.

Informational folders and newsletters for Realtors’ clients will be provided.

Greenfield, Fortville restaurants to hold Dine to Donate events

HANCOCK COUNTY — Restaurants in Greenfield and Fortville will host Dine to Donate events in November.

One will be 4 p.m. to close Wednesday, Nov. 6 at Jim Dandy, 80 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield. Portions of purchases will go to Families United for Support and Encouragement.

Another will be 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14 at Lincoln Square Pancake House, 901 E. Broadway St., Fortville. Ten percent of all sales will be donated to Zoey’s Place.

Unemployment rate continues to drop in Hancock County

HANCOCK COUNTY — The September 2019 unemployment rate in Hancock County dropped from last year, as did rates for the state and country.

Hancock County’s unemployment rate for September 2019 was 2.5%, ranking it 59th highest out of Indiana’s 92 counties, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. The September rate was down from 2.8 percent a year prior and 2.8 percent in August 2019.

Indiana’s unemployment rate for September 2019 was 2.8 percent, down from 3.1 percent in September 2018 and 3.2 percent in August 2019.

The unemployment rate for the U.S. was 3.3 percent in September 2019, 3.6 percent in September 2018 and 3.8 percent in August 2019.
