Otis L. ‘Buddy’ Busby Jr.

Otis L. Busby, Jr., known to many as “Buddy,” passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at 7:25 a.m. in Warsaw’s Kosciusko Community Hospital. He was 80 years old and a resident of Beaver Dam Lake.

Born on June 19, 1939, Buddy was the son of Otis Busby, Sr. and Evelyn (Blankenship) Busby. He was born in Richmond and was one of five Busby children. He was a graduate of Fountain City High School and later went on to earn a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Ball State University.

Professionally, Buddy was an educator, teaching social studies, physical education and health in his tenure. He was also a decorated coach who coached swimming, football, track and basketball. As a football coach he led the Greenfield-Central Cougars to a state championship. His ability to instill team spirit and to teach the value of hard work earned him an induction to the Greenfield-Central High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Buddy was previously active in the Milton Masonic Lodge and Order of the Eastern Star where he was a past Worthy Patron. He was an active of the Rochester Elks Lodge. He was a caring father, a consummate coach and he loved time spent at Beaver Dam Lake with his family. He was also an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army.

On Jun 8, 1963, Otis “Buddy” Busby was united in marriage to Barbara Lynn Ingerman – she survives at home. Also surviving are three children: daughter, Lynn (Chris) Busby of Indianapolis, son, Sean Busby of Claypool and daughter, Heather (Chris) Busby of Charlotte, North Carolina; three grandsons: Gage, Cain, and Luke; granddaughter, Rian; brother, Doug (Joyce) Busby of Tennessee and sister, Nan Busby of Evansville. His parents and two brothers, Gary and David Busby preceded him in passing.

A Celebration of Life for Mr. Busby will be held at Greenfield-Central High School Cafeteria on Sunday October 27, 2019 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.  G-CHS is located at 810 N. Broadway, Greenfield, Indiana 46140.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Beaver Dam Conservation Club in Buddy’s name.  Checks can be made payable to Beaver Dam Conservation Club and mailed to 9422 S. Amanda Dr., Claypool, IN 46510.
