Marauders keep rolling, sweep past Dragons

NEW PALESTINE — It was New Palestine’s senior night, but Thursday’s volleyball rivalry match with Mt. Vernon was all Marauders.

The visitors picked up their sixth straight sweep, dropping the Dragons 25-17, 25-15, 25-10. The win moved the Marauders, ranked No. 7, to 23-4 and a 5-2 finish in the Hoosier Heritage Conference. The Dragons fell to 16-12 and 1-6 in the HHC.

Victoria Bulmahn set the efficient Mt. Vernon offense with 37 assists. Offensively, Claire Ertel led Mt Vernon with 12 kills. Rachel Pilkington had 10 kills on 15 attempts with no errors. Cecilia Bulmahn added 9 kills and Olivia Yeley had 7 kills on 11 attempts with no errors.

Defensively, Sophie Schultz led the way with 21 digs. Victoria Bulmahn had 12, Cecilia Bulmahn added 15 and Ertel had 13. Yeley, Macy Lyons and Cecilia Bulmahn each had three blocks.

Mt. Vernon will conclude the regular season with two matches at Chatard today. The first opponent will be Bloomington North at 10 a.m. The Dragons are off until Thursday, when they open sectional play against Lawrence Central at North Central at 7 p.m.
