FORTVILLE — The Fortville Police Department is warning residents that a scammer is disguising the phone number they’re calling from as the town’s main line in an attempt to swindle people out of money.

The unknown caller makes threats that the recipient of the call has unpaid tickets or bills and that the recipient will be arrested if they don’t pay, according to a post on the Fortville Police Department’s Facebook page.

The Fortville Police Department never calls anyone in an attempt to collect money or threaten to arrest, the post continues.

Any questions should be directed to the Hancock County 911 Center at 317-477-4400.
