GREENFIELD — The Kenneth Butler Memorial Soup Kitchen will have a free community carnival Oct. 12 in celebration of its 10th anniversary.

KBMSK executive director Jill Ebbert said the event is intended to say “thank you” to the Hancock County community for its support in the form of donations and volunteer hours over the decade since the soup kitchen opened.

“We could never have made it without everyone’s help,” Ebbert said.

The carnival will be open from 1-5 p.m. at the soup kitchen and the Greenfield Christian Church parking lot next door. Activities will include carnival games, a dunk tank and a donut-eating contest, and food will be served.

Ebbert said the soup kitchen has come a long way since opening in 2009 and was able to serve 230,000 meals during 2018. She said she hopes anyone who has been involved in the soup kitchen since it was opened will return to join the celebration.

“I’d like to be able to hug everybody who’s ever given us anything to help us along,” Ebbert said.
