Buescher breaks record  

Junior goalkeeper Abe Buescher broke the school record for career shutouts with No. 16 on Wednesday in Greenfield-Central’s 6-0 win over visiting Yorktown.

Zack Bell and Jordan Phillips had two goals apiece. John Halvorsen and Caleb Mundell had the others. Phillips had three assists and Bell added two. Derek Owen and Mundell also had assists.

Greenfield-Central is 11-1 overall and 5-0 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference. Yorktown dropped to 7-7 and 2-5.

Girls soccer

2nd-half goals key MV win

Mt. Vernon broke open a close game with three second-half goals and defeated host Lawrence Central 4-1 on Wednesday.

Anna Isger, Kaidlin Jeter, Shay Stindle and Maddie Swingle had the tallies for the Marauders. Mariam Konate had an assist.

The Marauders are 9-5 on the year.

Dragons lose 2-1

In a close Hoosier Heritage Conference match, New Palestine lost 2-1 to host Pendleton Heights on Wednesday.

Addie Halter, on an assist by Emily Giddens, had the goal for the Dragons.

New Palestine dropped to 7-5-2 overall and 2-4 in the HHC. Pendleton Heights improved to 9-3-2 and 5-1 in league play.

Volleyball

Cougars fall short

Greenfield-Central lost 3-0 to defending Class 4A state champion Yorktown on Wednesday.

The Cougars lost the road match by set scores of 25-10, 25-12, 25-11.

Makayla Price and Ava Antic combined for double-digit kills. Setter Morgan Hornaday had 10 assists.

The Cougars are 12-9 overall and 2-4 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference. Yorktown improved to 18-1 overall and 5-1 in the HHC.

Mt. Vernon earns victory

Mt. Vernon defeated host Triton Central 3-0, Wednesday.

The Marauders won by set scores of 26-24, 25-12, 25-18.

Cecilia Bulmahn had 15 kills and 11 digs. Victoria Bulmahn had 35 assists, 10 digs and three total blocks. Sophie Schultz had four service aces. Lillie Perdue led in digs with 13.

Royals win, improve to 7-15

Eastern Hancock improved to 7-15 on the season with a 3-0 home court victory Wednesday over Tri.

Cougars edge Yorktown

Greenfield-Central beat Yorktown 3-2, at home on Wednesday.

The Cougars got wins from No. 3 singles player Garrett Neumeister and the doubles teams of Corbin Tilley-Nick Grandstaff and Seth Kirkpatrick-Kane Bradley.

Royals edged at Anderson

Eastern Hancock lost 3-2 Wednesday to host Anderson.

The Royals got wins from No. 3 singles player Zeke Dixon (6-0, 6-2) and the No. 1 doubles team of Brady Smith and Sammy Blocher (7-5, 6-1).

No. 1 singles player Kodey Huff lost a tough three-setter, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1.

The Royals are 10-7 on the season.
