Registration ongoing for pumpkin contest

HANCOCK COUNTY — Creative carvers, painters and decorators should plan now to participate in the Riley Festival Pumpkin Decorating Contest. Register your pumpkin from 5 to 6 p.m. Oct. 2 at Greenfield Fire Territory Station 421 at 17 W. South St. Cash prizes given in different age groups from preschool to adult. Winning pumpkins will be displayed at Lincoln Square Pancake House, 118 W. Main St., for the duration of the Riley Festival beginning Oct. 3. Master Gardeners to discuss fall gardening

HANCOCK COUNTY — The public is invited to Hancock County Master Gardeners’ monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 26 at Purdue Extension Hancock County, 802 N. Apple St., Greenfield. As the September meeting is traditionally dedicated to harvesting wisdom from within the membership, Master Gardeners Bruce Matter, Rosemary Hill, Connie Dickinson, Peggy Robertson and Vickie Snarr will present a review of “Weed Identification and Eradication.” Snarr will also share information about fall gardening. Retiring Purdue Extension Educator Roy Ballard will be honored. A business meeting will follow at 7:40 p.m.

Circle of Lights accepting auditions

INDIANAPOLIS — The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers No. 481 announces a call for video auditions for the 2019 Circle of Lights to be held on Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis on Nov. 23. Entertainers, singers, musicians, dancers and choral groups are invited to submit two-minute video auditions through Sept. 26. The Circle of Lights will take place Nov. 29.
