FORTVILLE — Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation put its buildings on lockdown shortly before dismissal on Friday afternoon after receiving “a threat of violence,” according to a corporation official. By 4:15, the threat had passed and officials released students to go home.

Police said a current student and a former student had been detained and were being questioned about the threat, which was posted on social media and noticed by another student, who notified authorities.

Earlier, police had closed roads in the area near State Road 234 and County Road 200W as they searched for a suspect.

The Fortville campus is mainly at that corner and includes the corporation’s high school, middle school, an elementary school, preschool and administrative offices.

Authorities held a news conference Friday evening to address the situation. See the Weekend edition of the Daily Reporter for further updates to this story.
