Library to host event on Ku Klux Klan history

GREENFIELD — The Hancock County Public Library will host a variety of events for all ages during the first week of September. 

The library’s Greenfield branch will host an event on the history of the Ku Klux Klan in Indiana Sept. 4.

Dr. Jason Lantzer will discuss his research on the ascendancy of the Klan in the state in the 1920s, its branding an organization that upheld American values and its rapid decline. Lantzer is the assistant director of the university honors program at Butler University in Indianapolis.

On Sept. 5, the Sugar Creek Branch in New Palestine will host "Harry Potter Minute-to-Win-It" for patrons age 9 to 18. Participants will use  wizard paraphernalia to compete for a Harry Potter prize. On Sept. 5 at the Greenfield branch, teens are invited to create art they can eat in a Teen Cookie Painting Session from 3:45-4:45 p.m. No registration is required for the event. 

The Greenfield branch will also celebrate "National Cheese Pizza Day" Sept. 5 from 4-5 p.m.
